Spiders and Webs

Since the arrival of Fall, we have been talking a lot about spiders and spider webs. For instance, the morning that the Black Widow spider was crawling on my shoulder, we talked in abundance about spider safety and not to touch.
We also identified local spiders.

We took many nature walks and looked for spider webs.
Check this one out, my daughter found it.

My little one draws webs and spiders endlessly now.

At one point we even turned a whole room into a web and my
kids turned into spiders.

We have had lots of fun learning, but don't tell my kids that's
what they were doing!

I WAS SENT HOME FROM 8TH GRADE SCIENCE CLASS WITH MY PROJECT...A MASON JAR FULL OF HUGE BLACK WIDOWS. YES, THEY WERE ALIVE.

seriously! there was a black widow on your shoulder? what did you do?

there are loads of spiders here as well, but none are venemous. we've been doing lots of nature study trips into the forest looking for webs. we've seen loads of male female pairs hanging out together. BUT we haven't made our own web here at home...so i'm thinking....soon.very soon.
thanks for the idea.

Well...kind of a funny story.
After I noticed the black spider on my shoulder, my first instinct was to flick it off. Unfortunately I flicked it onto the couch my 3 year old was sitting on. Unsure I flicked it off me, and hoping that I didn't flick it on my son, I started hopping around the living room stripping both of our clothes off. As my daughter walked in, completely unknowing the events that just took place, I yelled for her to check us for spiders! Sleepily her reply, "mom you are sooo weird. I later found the spider on the sofa and killed it.
